Links to witness statements from those who observed Lee Harvey Oswald on Nov.22, 1963

by E. Alan Meece

Linnie Mae Randle: Oswald put a long package in the back of her brother Wesley Frazier’s car when they brought Oswald to work that morning. Lee was wearing a light brown or tan shirt.

Howard Brennan: did not notice anything unusual about the man in the 6th floor Depository window. He was a white man in his early 30s, slender, nice looking, about 165-175 pounds and had light colored clothing on, definitely not a suit. Brennan saw him let the gun down. Brennan was the only witness to the man in the window who stood in a police line-up. He said Oswald most resembled the man he saw, but he didn't want to say for sure because he feared communists might endanger him.

Arnold Louis Rowland: He saw Oswald’s rifle. "This man" in the Depository "appeared to be a white man and appeared to have a light colored shirt on, open at the neck. He appeared to be of slender build and appeared to have dark hair." This was the witness of whom the Frontline documentary said the man seen was thought to be there to protect the president.

Ronald B Fischer: looked up to the Depository building, "I noticed he was light-headed and that he had on an open-neck shirt...his complexion seemed to be clear, and was in his twenties"

Robert Edwards: from Dallas police affidavit Nov.22, 1963. "The shots seemed to come from that building [Book Depository] there... I noticed that he [man in Book Depository window] had on a sport shirt, it was light colored it was yellow or white, something to that effect and his hair was rather short; I thought he might be something around twenty-six, as near as I could tell."

M.L. Baker, Dallas Police: he stopped Oswald inside the Depository on the 2nd floor (or 3rd Floor) and the building manager (Roy Truly) told him "I know that man, he works here". "I turned the man loose...the man I saw was a white man approximately 30 years old, 5’9", 165 pounds, dark hair and wearing a light brown jacket." Although his was similar to the description Gerald Hill quoted in the Frontline documentary as a description of the man in the 6th floor window put over police radio, that was likely close to Brennan’s description. No-one else except the cab driver said Oswald wore a jacket. It was a shirt.

Mary E. Bledsoe: saw Oswald get on the bus with her. "I caught a bus to go home. The bus traveled west on Elm Street to about Murphy Street and made a stop and that is when I saw Lee Oswald get on the bus. Traffic was heavy and it took quite some time to travel two or three blocks..while the bus was stopped due to the heavy traffic, Oswald got off the bus. I know this man was Lee Oswald because he lived in my home from October 7, 1963 to October 14, 1963."

William Whaley, cab driver: "saw a man walking south on Lamar from Commerce. The man was dressed in faded blue color khaki work clothes, a brown shirt, and some kind of work jacket that almost matched his pants.466 The man asked, "May I have the cab?", and got into the front seat." "Whaley testified that Oswald was wearing either the gray zippered jacket or the heavy blue jacket.477 He was in error, however. Oswald could not possibly have been wearing the blue jacket during the trip with Whaley, since it was found in the "domino" room of the Depository late in November. 478 Moreover, Mrs. Bledsoe saw Oswald in the bus without a jacket and wearing a shirt with a hole at the elbow.479 On the other hand, Whaley identified Commission Exhibit No. 150 (the shirt taken from Oswald upon arrest) as the shirt his passenger was wearing."
