Prompt: it was surreal

I stepped outside my door. The trees were all there, but they changed colors, as if Autumn were on speed-dial. Suddenly, it was Winter, and snow was upon my face. I passed out, but soon woke up, or so I thought. I was in a wonderous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.

A fairy appeared to me and said, you are no longer real. You are a figment of my imagination. I have entered your body, and I can make you into anything I wish (referring to Mike’s essay). Presently, I was a fish. Then I became a dinosaur. After that, I became a lion. The fairy was re-creating evolution for me. But, no humans ever appeared. The fairy had decided life would evolve into fairies instead. It was surreal. It was like we had all died and gone to the other side. It was a heavenly world on Earth. I wondered how this happened. But I could not ask the fairy, because (s)he was living me. But the fairy, who was non-binary and uni-sex, read my mind.

The fairy said that humans had decided not to go into farming, but kept their magic from the cave art days and developed it. So life went a different way. There was peace and love, and no war. So, can we still change our direction, and develop magic again and leave technology behind, I wondered? Yes, the fairy said! But then, the dream was over, Winter receded, the snow melted, the trees stood still and I woke up. But, the fairy whispered a voice in my mind. Remember, all things are possible, the fairy said.
