The Band of Writers is a small group of people seeking to release and develop some of their creative abilities, perhaps that they did not know they have. This group of Band of Writers currently meets under my leadership, Eric Meece, at Unitarian Univeralist Fellowship of Los Gatos. A prompt (or subject to write about) is given in advance for homework, which we share at the meeting (right now on every other second sunday of the month at 1 PM) for about 5-15 minutes, and then we decide on another prompt to write on for 10 minutes, which we share at the meeting. The resulting essay, story, short treatise, poem or song can be about the assignment, or only vaguely related to the assignment. It is nice if the assignment prompt appears or is alluded to somewhere in the essay.
My essays, by Eric Meece, aka E. Alan Meece, are usually brief, especially the spontaneous ones, and many incorporate a lot of imagination and wacky humor with synchronistic inter-connections or inter-relationships, often with symbolic, esoteric and mythical allusions related to my theory of the philosophers wheel, but on the other hand, they could also go in a fictional, poetic, political, historical, musical, philosophical, scientific, religious, mythical, spiritual, UU, personal or any other serious or fanciful direction, and many of my essays include references and links to support and expand on my statements. My essays from before 2024 were written for the San Jose version of the group.
